NEW for 2012 - CHESS CLUB and ART CLASSES!

Chess Club - Whether you're a beginner or a grandmaster, the YMCA Chess Club is a great place to learn more about this game of strategy and calculation.  Players of all skill levels and experience are welcome!  Chess Club meets Monday nights in the Community Room from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Registration is by the month - $5 for Y-members, $10 non-members. 

Art Classes - Classes will be held Wednesdays, starting January 4. Create art from a variety of materials - traditional and non-traditional, recycled items and found objects.  Learn about artists and their works - each week will feature a work of art which complements the week's project.
        Children's Art Class
, for students in grade 2 through 5, will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
         Advanced Art Class, from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m., is designed for older students and adults of any skill level. Younger students will be accepted if accompanied by their parent(s).
        Fee for either Art Class is on a monthly basis - $10 Y-members/ $15 non-member.
        Pre-registration is required for both Chess Club and Art Classes.

Cheerleading / Tumbling / Dance - YMCA Made To Move is here!
Lead Instructor, Kristin Camper-Perkins, is offering three new activities: 
   HCFY Hardin County Heat Cheer - Both the Youth Cheer and Senior Cheer are currently full.  Please contact Kristin Camper-Perkins if interested.

  Tumbling - For all athletes looking to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination.  Toddler Tumbling through Level 3 advanced classes; held Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. Fees vary with each class.

Dance - Classes are rhythmic and high-energy, with special choreography, kid-friendly routines and music.  Top three dance styles so popular right now - Hip-Hop, Tap and Ballet - improve balance, flexibility, rhythm and coordination.  Held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fees vary with class.

Sea Dragon Swim Team: (Full season) Registration starts in mid-August; practices in September.  Competitive swim team for ages 6 through high school.  Youth must be a YMCA member to
participate. Season runs September - March.  $190 season
 fee per swimmer; $160 for 2nd swimmer in family; additional swimmers $130;  High School Swim Team members - $90. 
        
SEA DRAGON SHORT SEASON (fall only) - For swimmers who are looking for less than a full year of competitive swimming.  The Fall Season ends at Thanksgiving.   1st swimmer - $40, Additional swimmers in same family - $30.

Pre-School Swim Lessons (Pike, Eel, Ray/Starfish): -
          For children 3 - 5 years old.  This is an introduction to swimming.  Early lesson will focus on floating and developing swimming skills including strong kicks. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.; or Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:00-5:30 p.m.;   $25/$50

Y Progressive Swim Lessons (Polliwog, Guppy, and Minnow)
:
         Swim lessons are available for youth from pre-school and up. Lessons meet twice a week over a six-week period. Children are expected to progress at their own rate.   Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:30-6:00 p.m., $25/$50 

Advanced Swim Lessons (Fish, Flying Fish, Shark, Porpoise) -
       
This is for swimmers who have passed Minnow or the equivalent.  The lessons are designed to teach advanced swimming techniques, including breast and butterfly strokes, competitive turns, and competition dives/ starts.  Please check with the Aquatics Director for further details.

Aquacize
:
Adults - A fun class that improves flexibility and range of motion. For adults, age 18 -98 and abilities - no swimming required!
M, W, F, 8:45 - 9:45 a.m.; $30/$55

    Strength: T, Th - 9:00-9:45 A.M.   Build strength, muscle tone, and flexibility. Free/$40         instructor:  Meg Manns   

    NEW CLASS - SilverSneakers CardioFit:  T, Th - 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. - Great exercise class that adds a cardio workout to the MSROM routine.  Space is limited to first 30 participants. 

    SilverSneakers MSROM: T, Th - 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. - Non-cardio exercise class emphasizing muscular strength and range-of-motion exercises using small balls, resistance bands and dumbbells.  Instructors are Marlene Jolliff (Tuesday) and Beth Hull (Thursday).  Space is limited to first 30 participants; SilverSneakers participants given priority, followed by YMCA members, then non-members.  (SilverSneakers is $40 to non-members)

    In-Between Fitness: M, W, F - 10:00-11:00 A.M.    Low intensity, low impact dance type class. A great class for the beginner; taught by Beth Hull.     Free/$45      

    Body Works:   T, Th - 5:00-5:45 P.M. - Strengthen, condition, and tone all the major muscle groups in this non-aerobic workout.   Instructor:  Carol McKinley  Free/ $40                      

    Step It Up: M, W - 6:00-6:45 P.M.  This class is for all fitness levels. A variety of workouts with weights/strength highlighted.  Instructor:  Kelly Thacker      Free/$40                          

    Boot Camp
    : T, Th - 7:00-7:45 P.M. This class incorporates boxing type moves that work the upper and lower parts of the body.  Instructor: TBA      Free/$40

    Rhythm Sticks -
    Our newest group exercise class that combines drumming and movement to provide holistic health benefits while having fun.  Mondays & Wednesdays, 5:15-5:50 pm     Free/$40

    Youth Rhythm Sticks -
    For kids, ages 9- thru 12 - Join the fun with our new class!  It combines drumming and rhythmic movement to upbeat music for creative expression & fun.  Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:00-4:30 p.m.    Free/$40  (Cancelled for Winter 1 - lack of registrations)

    YOGILATES - This class includes floor movement sequences in kneeling, prone, seated and supine positions.  Strengthens the core, improves balance, increases coordination and decreases stress.  Instructor:  Carol McKinley;  Tuesday and Thursdays 6:00 - 6:45 pm

    Tae Kwon Do/Self defense: T, Th - 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Korean martial art form offered by the month, year-round.  Tim Conkle is our lead instructor.  $30 Month/ $40 Month

    Adult Volleyball:  Wednesdays - 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., and Fridays -5-7:00 p.m.   Open to adults and older teens.   Free to Y members/ $15 year non-member.   

    Adult Racquetball League: League is for intermediate to advanced skill players. Offered in January if enough interest.

    Racquetball Private Lessons:
      Learn the basics of this fast-paced sport with Frank Marsico.  Both adult and youth lessons are available. $ 5 per half-hour, members;  $15 per half-hour, non-members.  Contact the YMCA if interested.

    Massage: Massage offered by appointment only with Kathie Phillips (formerly "Therapeutic Touch").  Current rates vary by type and length of massage.  Call the Y for more information.

      I Love Basketball!:  Six-week, fall program teaches age-appropriate skills - dribbling, passing, shooting, game situations.  usually held in November
                               
      (past year's times):  Ages 3 - 5:  Saturdays from 11:10-11:40 a.m. 
                                         Ages 6 - 8: Saturdays from 10:35 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.

      I Love Baseball!  -  3-5 year olds   - Registration in April - May    
      An introduction to the basics of T-Ball.  Baseball skills are practiced, as well as baseball drills and games.  This is a developmental program that requires volunteers to work with the players in a series of drills each week.  There are no teams, no prior practices; the program meets on Sundays in June at 1:00.
      Cost is$15 / $25, includes T-shirt and cap.

      T-BALL - 5-8 year olds - This is for players looking to transition to pitched ball play.  We recommend 10 players in the field, (4 outfielders); outs are recorded but not runs.  Later, some games may feature "coaches' pitch".  Games last 4 innings or 1 hour, 15 minutes, whichever comes first.  Sundays in June, first games start around 2:00 p.m.

      Cost is $25 / $45, includes T-shirt and cap

      Coaches and adult volunteers are needed for both programs.

      SOCCER : PLEASE NOTE -Teams and Youth who played in the Fall, 2011, season, remain in the same age bracket for Spring, 2012.  

      Fall Outdoor Travel Soccer: (U8-U15) - 
      Registration held early June.
       Teams that wish to stay together should sign up as a team at the same time.  Remember- players will age up for the Fall season where applicable. New players and late registrants will be placed on teams where needed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
                All new players must submit a copy of "Certificate of Live Birth" from the health department of the county they were born in.
                The Fall Soccer Season runs mid-August through September.   Optional tournaments in October.

      Spring Outdoor Travel Soccer
      : (U8-U15) - REGISTRATION deadline was January 14.  Brackets U8, U10, U12 are now closed.  There are 3 openings left in the U15 Co-Ed bracket. 
       
      The absolute latest date to register for YMCA Spring Soccer is February 20.

      As in the fall season, Coaches and Teams that wish to stay together for the Spring season should register all at the same time.
                New players will be placed on teams where needed,
      on a first-come, first-served basis. Spring season runs mid-March through April and ends mid-May.
                              
      Outdoor U6 In-House League - Soccer year: Fall 2011 - Spring 2012:  (Birthdates between August 1, 2005 to July 31, 2007). Informal beginner soccer for ages 4 and 5. 
                There are currently six coaches and thirty-six players registered for spring U6 soccer. With a maximum of six players allowed per team, we now have six teams.  In order to have additional teams, additional coaches are needed. Please contact Julie Crowe at the Front Desk if interested in coaching a U6 team.  The deadline to volunteer to coach is Feb. 13.

      Traditionally, the "soccer year" runs from August 1 to July 31. Children "age up" to the next age bracket in the fall.  Age is determined by the age the child has reached on July 31.

      BIRTH CERTIFICATES REQUIRED for ALL new players to YMCA soccer program!!

      Four age groups are available for travel soccer , Fall 2011 - Spring 2012:
                        U-8 (birthdates between August 1, 2003 to July 31, 2005)
                        U-10  (birthdates between August 1, 2001 to July 31,2003)
                        U-12 (birthdates between August 1, 1999 to July 31, 2001)
                        U-15 (birthdates between August 1, 1996 to July 31, 1999)

      Children may not play up more than two years from their true age; this is a state policy.

                 Teams currently play in the Black Swamp League and travel to area communities within a 10-50 mile radius.
                Health Department -issued BIRTH CERTIFICATES are required for all new players;  ENTRY FEES ARE DUE upon registration!!!
              
               Players, coaches, and teams must register at the YMCA each season; teams will stay together where possible.

      Teams may choose to play in area tournaments at their option.  The YMCA is not able to sponsor tournament participation at this time, and it does not endorse tournament play.

      Beginning Racquetball: Grades 4-8. Specified times.  Learn the rules of the game, how to serve, volley, play offense and defense.  Basic skills are stressed.  Limit of five kids in a class.    Frank Marsico is the instructor.  Contact the Front Desk if interested.

      Tae Kwon Do: This Korean form of martial art teaches self defense and develops motor skills for ages six and up. Held year-round.  Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 p.m., Community Room.       Other Youth Programs:

      Home School Fitness:  Tuesdays, 1:00-2:00 p.m.;  pre-registration required for 7-week sessions, September through May. Activities include soccer, basketball, gymnasium games, swimming, track & field.  Each session ends with a free swim in the indoor pool. Home School Fitness is $ 2 per child, per week. 
             



SUMMER CAMPS

(NOTE:  there is a required minimum of thirteen paid, pre-registered campers in order for Camp Ne-Kah-No to be held)

Summer Day Camp - Pre-registration REQUIRED the Thursday prior to the camp week you want to attend, please!  

        *  Camp Ne-Kah-No (ages 3-7)- Camp Ne-Kah-No will be offered every other week through the summer, beginning June 13.  Each week of camp works around a different theme. Camp held on Monday through Friday; 9:00 a.m. - 12:00. - camp games, songs, crafts, swimming and special activities each week - kids should bring sneakers, swimsuit, towel.   $25 Y-members/ $35 non-mbrs.  Miss Beverly (Horn) is the supervisor.

    6-7-8 Grade Teen Dance & Costume Party: Scheduled for fall. New party ideas are welcome - contact Julie Crowe at the YMCA!
             Tickets: Pre-sale $1;  at the door, $2 each.
    Please bring a canned good to donate to the local Helping Hands food pantry.
             The 6-7-8 Dance Party is co-sponsored by the Kenton Elks Lodge in conjunction with the Elks National Foundation's Drug Awareness Program and Promise Grant.
             Open to any 6,7,or 8th grader in Kenton and Hardin County school districts; traditionally held in the early evening in the fall; music, dancing, door prizes, costume contest, refreshments. 
             Help Needed: set-up, adult chaperones, clean-up; ideas and suggestions welcome!

    Youth Fitness Orientation: This four-session class teaches youth, ages 12-15, the proper use of all exercise equipment in our weights room, as well as guidelines for creating an exercise routine.  Upon successful completion of the class, youth are entitled to work out in the weights & equipment room unaccompanied by an adult.  Instructor:  Kyle Stahler
    Classes are offered by popular request - prefer to have at least 3 in the course.  Cost is $40;  youth must be Y-member.

    Y Kids Parties: Held Halloween & Christmas. Activities include songs, games, crafts & stories.

    SILLY SATURDAYS - This program is usually held from 9:00 - 12:00 noon the 2nd Saturday of the month, September - May; activities are seasonal; Miss Beverly is the coordinator.  $ 10 members / $15 potential members.       Pre-registration is required!
